About women's work and parenting
Japanese women are more likely to quit their jobs for child rearing than other countries. I want to continue raising my child while continuing my work in the future. So, I am interested in this problem. There are the following reasons for Japanese women to quit their jobs in order to raise children.
In Japan, there are not enough facilities to take care of the children, while woman are working. Women want to keep their children in nursery schools and continue their work. However, there are about 23,000 waiting children (April 2013) who cannot enter the nursery center, especially in urban areas. Elementary schoolchildren after school childcare also have standby children of approximately 8,700 people (May 2013).
In Japan, men do not do housework or parenting much. Japanese men with children under 6 years old have housework and parenting for about 1 hour a day on average. The time spent on housework and child rearing is about one third of Western countries. The background of this problem is that the awareness of the division of roles between men and women is strong by the traditional values of Japanese people. There is also a problem that the working hours of Japanese men are long. The work time of Japanese men has increased in recent years. In a male in his thirties who is a child-rearing generation, one in five people is working for over 60 hours a week. This percentage is higher than other ages. Japanese women are difficult to continue working because men are difficult to engage in housework and childcare. And it thinks that this is also contributing to a declining birthrate.
I feel that there are a lot of the role for women in Japan. I think that there are many women who want to balance work and parenting just like me. For that, family cooperation is indispensable. I think that if both men and women work and support households, it is important that housework are shared by two people. Also, Fukui prefecture has few standby children. So, in Fukui prefecture there are many women who keep their children in nursery schools and continue working. Therefore, I want to work while raising my child in Fukui in the future.
